FAQs
How do I know if my house needs rewired?
Common signs include frequent tripping, scorched or warm sockets, a fuse board with rewireable fuses, rubber or fabric insulated cables, and wiring that is more than 30 years old. If your home has not been rewired since the 1980s, an inspection is strongly recommended. Our free rewire check is the quickest way to find out where you stand.
How much does a house rewire cost in Northern Ireland?
The cost depends on the size of the property, the number of bedrooms, whether the home is occupied during the work and the level of finish you choose. Our rewiring cost calculator gives you a tailored estimate in under two minutes, and every project receives a fixed, itemised quote before any work begins.
Can I stay in my house during a rewire?
Yes. Our occupied rewire service is designed exactly for this. We work room by room, keep power and essential circuits running wherever possible, protect your furniture and clean up at the end of every day. Many of our customers live at home for the full duration of the work.
What happens after the walls are chased? Do I need a plasterer?
Not with us. Plastering and making good are part of our service, so you do not need to find a second trade. Once the new wiring is in, our team fills every chase, repairs every wall and leaves surfaces ready for decoration. This is the heart of our keys in, keys out approach.
How long does a full rewire take?
A typical three bedroom home takes between one and two weeks including plastering, depending on the size of the property and whether it is occupied. You receive a clear timescale with your quote, and we agree the schedule with you before any work starts.
How disruptive is a rewire?
A rewire involves lifting floor coverings and chasing walls, so there is some unavoidable disruption. The difference with Rewire NI is how we manage it. We protect your home with dust sheets, work to an agreed room by room plan, plaster as we go and clean thoroughly before handover.
Are you certified and insured?
Yes. Rewire NI is NICEIC approved and fully insured. Every rewire is inspected, tested and certified, and you receive all certification documents at handover along with our written workmanship guarantee.
